Getting rid of the winter weight

Winter is not coming but actually leaving Austria right now. It is spring and that means that the days are actually getting longer, the sun is shining more regularly and the temperature is going up. But what does that actually mean for us? After traveling a lot the last months, we slowly lost our regular workout habits, which resulted in weight gains for both of us. Something that needs to stop – like right now. And it’s not like both of us do not have experience in working out or losing weight – we just lost focus. Which happens. But the lazy time is over, we are starting to take control again.

Like most people, both of us struggle with two pretty basic principles:

Loving good food way too much

We love to eat good food. Yeah, you might think, most people do. But we REALLY REALLY love to eat good food. And sadly, that also includes really fatty food or stuff with lots of calories – like Pizza, Pasta, Fries, Burgers, Tortillas, Cheese, Chocolate, Icecream…

It is not like we do not know how to do it better – but it is easy to lose control over it when you have a lot of stuff going on in your life at the moment – like renovation your apartment, moving in together, traveling, organizing trips while still working a lot.

So yes, we kind of lost focus on eating healthy and good quality food, which will be a big focus the next few month. We will try different things, because frankly, we know not everything works for everybody – and it is not even sure if the same stuff works for both of us at the same time, so we will see.

Not working out enough (or at all)

The second one is also crucial while still being really simple. If you want to lose weight, you have to burn calories. To burn calories, you have to move. So get moving. Isn’t it simple? The basic rule here is to find stuff you like to do, otherwise you will hate your workouts every time you (have to) do them and you will eventually stop. It doesn’t mean that it has to be an easy workout – if it is too easy, you obviously can step it up a notch – but you should at least get some kind of enjoyment out of it.

So what that means for the both of us in the next couple of weeks? Find a workout routine that works for both of us. It doesn’t mean that we have to do all the workouts together – but it would be nice to find stuff we can actually enjoy both – like we do with Squash. But you can not just do Squash all the time – that is really expensive and actually not that good for your knees either – we have already learned that. So we will try out some stuff and find a routine that should work for Alex and me individually.

That’s it from us. Have an awesome day 🙂
